About Naomi Tiry Salgado

I send out a quarterly arts newsletter (It usually includes an arts article written by me, invitations to upcoming shows--sometimes invitation only shows, news that happened since the last newsletter, etc.).  If you would like to receive this, please contact me through my website or send an email: naomi@tirysalgado.com

I have a YouTube channel with three playlists: (1) Urban Life Series--19 videos showing how I got ready for a large exhibition.  (2) Color Theory for Artists--an ongoing series learning color theory from basics to complex theory.  (3) Chemistry for Artists--understanding topics involving chemistry made understandable using visual aids and everyday language.  To subscribe, find my channel: @Tiry Salgado Fine Art.

I enjoy painting en plein air (outside, on location) because of the spontaneity and freshness it adds to my work. There is something about hearing, smelling, and feeling the atmosphere of a scene that I hope comes through on the canvas.  It also allows me to meet some really awesome people who stop by to see what I'm doing.

I have lived on the "West Coast" of Wisconsin all of my life.  I recently hopped the border and now live in Eastern MN.  I paint outdoors all year round.  You'll find me out in all kinds of weather, though I have my limits.  I have learned the hard way to not go out in wind--it topples my easel and breaks equipment.  I'm also a bit of a wimp when it gets below 20 F. I have a hard time keeping my toes and fingers warm, even with  instant heat pouches tucked inside my socks and gloves!

I frequently paint with palette knives instead of brushes because of the beautiful textures that magically happen on the canvas.  This technique gives my work a more loose, carefree and unpretentious style yet I'm still able to maintain strong lines and structural details.

I was a K-8th grade art teacher at Trinity Academy in Hudson, WI for 5 years. Though I love working with children, I found it a struggle to balance time with my family and time for my own artwork. I gave up teaching to start painting professionally in September 2015.

The two most important areas of my life are my Family and my Faith. My whole family encourages and supports my artistic endeavors. My husband helps me think through the business side of things. My son helps with technology “stuff”. My daughter considers herself my “business manager.”  My little rascal dachshund likes being my studio assistant...but has the nasty habit of eating oil paint if I accidentally leave it within his reach.

If you are in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, you can see my work at the following places:

-Spatial Effects Gallery, 1759 Selby Ave, St. Paul, MN 55104. Hours: 1-4 Thursday and Saturday.

-Dunn Bros. Coffee Downtown, 529 Second Street, Suite 201, Hudson, WI 55016.

I'm so glad you stopped by my website!  Please poke around and check out my work.  I'd love it if you subscribe to my quarterly newsletter or just chat via email: Naomi@TirySalgado.com
