A swan painting. I painted this en plein air while standing on the ice in late winter in Hudson, WI. The swans were swimming around keeping the small patch of water from freezing over.
It’s a bit tricky painting a moving object without taking a photo. In order to paint this piece, I studied the movement of the swans for a few minutes and chose a pose that they swam into every few minutes. I painted other areas of the painting while I waited for the swans to swim back into position. This is an original oil painting.
