Privacy Policy – Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Note: I only added this section because it is recommended. In fact, the truth is that I have turned off comments on my blog posts because I’m sick of dealing with all of the spam. Privacy Policy – Newsletter
I send a quarterly newsletter by email to keep in touch with my collector base. Email newsletters are sent to collectors who have personally signed up to receive them. Only the collectors email address, and name are stored in the password-protected contact folder. Should a subscriber no longer wish to receive newsletters, they may reply to the email with the subject line REMOVE.
Privacy Policy – Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. Again, I turned off comments, so this does not apply at the time of writing.
This website uses Independent Analytics to count how many visitors visit the website. Independent Analytics does not use cookies at all. Instead, it uses our website’s REST API to record visits as they happen. Independent Analytics is a privacy-friendly visitor-counting plug-in. It collects the bare minimum of data, just enough to know how many unique visitors have visited, along with their geo-location. The only reason for counting visitors is to determine if my marketing efforts are working.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. Please check the privacy policy of the other websites to find out how your data is handled.
Who we share your data with
This website, tirysalgado.com, does not share your data with anyone. Personally, I am a privacy-loving individual. I don’t want my information collected, and I assume that most people are similar. So I have chosen a plug-in called Independent Analytics to count visitors, rather than Google Analytics, because the data that is collected never leaves my server. It is never sent to a third-party server such as Google.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Again, I have turned off the comment feature. But in case I ever turn them on again, this would be true.
Independent Analytics, a plug-in on this website, does not store personally identifiable information (PII). It uses a visitor’s IP address to get their geolocation, then encrypts their IP combined with their User Agent string to create a unique ID, and this unique ID is then used to recognize future visits.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
If you no longer wish to be a subscriber to the quarterly newsletter, please send an email to [email protected] with “REMOVE” in the subject line, along with the email address that you want unsubscribed from the mailing list.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Any data collected from Independent Analytics remains on my server and is not sent to a third party.
